Are the Miami Heat now a true contender in the Eastern Conference?

Updated: Feb 21, 2022

After getting swept in the first round of the playoffs by the Milwaukee Bucks. The Miami Heat have rebooted their roster with some talented all-star players. With the addition of Kyle Lowry, Jimmy Bulter now have someone who can facilitate the offense. Lowry does the little things like drawing fouls and getting to the rim for layups.

Lowry is leading the league in drawing charge fouls with 17! A plus for the Heat.

Miami was also able to steal PJ Tucker away from the Milwaukee Bucks. Tucker brings a defensive presence the Heat needed. He is a dog, a bully on the block, and a reliable corner-three-point shooter.

Tucker has playoff experience and was key to the Bucks playoff run.

The Heat was able to retain all-star Victor Oladipo, who is coming off a season-ending knee injury in 2019. I expect Oladipo to prove he is still an elite player this upcoming season. Miami scored big in the draft with Max Strus, he is a walking bucket. Strus is a threat from three-point range, he could be a sound bench player for the Heat.

Including Markieff Morris who can play multiple positions, shoot the three, defend, and post-up. To be able to add him to the Heat was a big move. Retaining Duncan Robinson was a plus Robinson has emerged as a pure shooter in the league shooting 40 percent from three-point range on at least eight three-point attempts per game, earning himself a big pay. A hard worker who fits the Heat culture.

Dewayne Dedmon is another good fit for the Miami Heat, Dedmon meshes well with Jimmy Butler. The two worked an efficient pick-and-roll game. Dedmon has plenty of room for improvement but could be a solid big backup.

With these additions, they should help the Heat become competitive again at the top of the Eastern Conference.
